Written by Inna Takacheva and Amit Tirosh, and read by Amit at the opening of the 1st International School for MEN Syndromes, at Sheba MC, Tel HaShomer, January 19th 2020
I would like to open with a few words on our colleague, Dr Andreas Buchs, that passed away two days ago after a long struggle with cancer.
Dr Buchs studied medicine in Switzerland and came to Israel in 1984. He did his residency in internal medicine in Soroka, Beer Sheva, fellowship in endocrinology at Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and after few years at Hadassah Ein Karem, he came to Assaf Harofeh (“Shamir”) Medical Center at 1999, for the main part of his career. At his last role, Dr Buchs was the head of the Division for Internal Medicine, and head of Internal Medicine D department, and was known to be very hard worker and dedicated physician throughout his career.
He was a diabetologist and internist in soul, established one of the main community diabetes clinics in central Israel and left behind generations of physicians that will continue his clinical legacy.
Andreas was a beloved person: noble, warm and with a great sense of humor, an essential tool for anyone with a swiss ancestry living in Israel. Dr Buchs was a good-hearted, sensitive person and had a great sense of justice.
Andreas left behind his wife, Adina, three children, and grandchildren.
We will all miss him very much.
